Peanut’s Holiday Gift Guide for Dogs

After sharing my holiday gift guide for humans, it only seemed right to share some of Peanut’s favorite dog gear so you can spoil your canine friends this holiday season, too.

So, I’ve compiled some of our favorite dog products below; all of them are products we actually own and love, and would highly recommend for your four-legged buds.

I hope you find something special on this list for your best good girl (or boy)!

A TINY DOG BACKPACK

Peanut's Holiday Gift Guide for Dogs

Why we love it:  not only is this mini backpack excessively cute, it comes in cute outdoorsy patterns, has a poop bag dispenser and an easy-to-clean treat pouch (that’s big enough to hold a tennis ball, too!), and is made by a company that removes 1 pound of trash from our waterways for each item purchased. It has a little carabiner to clip it to your belt loop (or your dog’s harness), and I’ve found it to be so convenient for going on road trips, attending puppy training classes, and just daily walks with Peanut.

PERSONALIZED DOG TREATS

Peanut's Holiday Gift Guide for Dogs

Why we love it:  they’re homemade dog treats WITH YOUR DOG’S NAME STAMPED ONTO THEM. I mean, come on. I’m actually upset that I didn’t start a customized dog treat business because these are just the cutest things, ever. I love that they’re made with simple, dog-tummy-friendly ingredients (chickpea flour, peanut butter, etc) and would be SO cute wrapped up under the Christmas tree for your pupper.

A SILENT SILICONE DOG TAG

Peanut's Holiday Gift Guide for Dogs

Why we love it:  it comes in the cutest colors/patterns (we have ‘aqua flora’), can be engraved with SO much information (we have both of our full names, cell numbers, and the word ‘microchipped’ on the back), and since it’s made from silicone, it’s completely silent on your dog’s collar. Plus, we think peanut looks so cute in hers!

A CRANBERRY + GOLD BANDANA

Peanut's Holiday Gift Guide for Dogs

Why we love it:  This is actually a human bandana, but we think it’s perfect for dogs! It’s soft and breathable, looks nice against just about every fur color, and is big enough that you can tie it a few different ways, if you want.

1,000mg CBD for PETS

Peanut's Holiday Gift Guide for Dogs

Why we love it:  it’s made with the same organically grown, family-farmed, high quality CBD that we (the humans) consume, but is blended with pet-friendly olive oil so that it’s safe for the doggos. I love using this during times I know are going to be stressful for Peanut (thunderstorms, trash day, fireworks, etc), but it’s also great for dogs with anxiety, older dogs with joint pain, etc. Peanut happily licks it right off my finger, but you could put it on a treat or directly into your dog’s food, if you aren’t sure that they’d like the taste!

A CHIC DOG BED

Peanut's Holiday Gift Guide for Dogs

Why we love it: the dog bed we have was discontinued, but this is the closest model I could find. It has great reviews, comes in a variety of sizes and colors, is SO comfy, and would look so cute in your bedroom or living room! If we need to upgrade our dog bed, this will be my next purchase!

BOSTON MADE FISH SKIN CHEWS

Peanut's Holiday Gift Guide for Dogs

Why we love it:  they’re handmade in south Boston from cod caught sustainably by small fisherman in New England and Alaska, are a great size for the price, and are absolutely irresistible for dogs. We love giving one of these to Peanut as we walk out the door (it only takes her a few minutes to eat it, but keeps her happy and busy as we’re leaving), or as a special car-ride treat. If you’re crate training a puppy, these are a great way to get your puppy excited to go into their crate! Fair warning: they will give your dog fishy breath for a little bit, but we don’t notice it lasting more than a few hours on her breath.

A HARNESS AND LEASH ALL IN ONE

Peanut's Holiday Gift Guide for Dogs

Why we love it:  these leashes are designed to help with dogs that pull on walks, as the leash lifts up under their arms when they tug, lifting them off the ground, forcing them to slow down and put their paws back on the ground. We didn’t get it for that reason, but because it is one of the only leashes/harnesses that a dog cannot slip out of, and doesn’t choke them when they pull hard. Peanut was so afraid of loud noises, large vehicles, etc, when we first got her, and her reaction to fear is to run for her life, resulting in a few times that she almost slipped out of her harness and, undoubtedly, would have been lost/injured. Once we started using this leash we never went back to the traditional leash/harness combo. They’re soft and comfortable to hold, really easy to slip on, and definitely do help with tugging, if that’s an issue for your dog. After over six months of multi-daily, all-weather use (and a puppy who was still learning not to chew on the leash when out for a walk), it’s still in near-perfect shape.

A SOFT, COLLAPSABLE DOG CRATE

Peanut's Holiday Gift Guide for Dogs

Why we love it: this has been where Peanut sleeps at night since the day we got her and how she rides in the car for long trips. It’s compact yet surprisingly roomy, SO easy to collapse and toss in the trunk when we’re going away for a few nights, and we like how it looks in our room better than a metal dog crate. It comes with a carrying case for when it’s collapsed, and has a zipper pouch on it when assembled for storing your dog’s stuff, if needed. NOTE: we don’t leave her home alone during the day in this crate, as a dog could definitely chew their way out of this if motivated to do so. If your dog is already crate trained or old, or less energetic than Peanut, this could be a good option for him/her if you want something that looks a little nicer and/or can be transported more easily. We really just use this as a dog bed that she gets zipped up in overnight.

ECO FRIENDLY BALL

Peanut's Holiday Gift Guide for Dogs

Why we love it:  these balls are made from non-toxic rice husk rubber that’s thin but extremely durable (even for puppy teeth!), come in a variety of sizes, are hollow so you could stuff them with treats if you want to (we rarely do), and are one of peanut’s all-time favorite toys. She happily plays with this ball by herself, tossing it around the living room, chasing after it, chewing/squishing it in her mouth. It’s one of our favorites, and is vanilla scented so it doesn’t have that strong plastic/rubber smell that a lot of other balls have.

HURTTA JACKETS

Peanut's Holiday Gift Guide for Dogs

Why we love them: these jackets are all super durable, insulated, waterproof, and so easy to get on and off and use with whatever leash/harness/collar you like. We were given an older model hand-me-down winter jacket and love it so much that we bought the rain jacket, too. They’re expensive as dog clothing goes (they’re essentially the same price as buying a human jacket), but if you go out no matter what the weather’s like, it’s definitely worth it to come home with a dry dog. We’ve gone out in the pouring rain for oven an hour (to the point where I’m actually soaked down to my underwear) and peanut comes home with a completely dry body under her jacket. So, when they say waterproof, they mean it!

A PUZZLE TOY FOR SMART DOGGOS

Peanut's Holiday Gift Guide for Dogs

Why we love it:  this is a beginner puzzle, so I really think any dog can do it! You just drop a few treats into the holes, slide the discs to cover them, and your dog works to use their nose or paws to move the discs out of the way, revealing the treats. Peanut figured this one out quickly, and we just use it for fun now- she can get all the treats in like 30 seconds at this point, so it’s definitely not an extended engagement toy, just one we pull out now and then to spice up her life.

BALM FOR DRY PAW PADS

Peanut's Holiday Gift Guide for Dogs

Why we love it:  it’s a gentle, all-natural balm that helps soothe dry, cracked pads (it’s great for dry noses, too, though we haven’t needed it for that!) and is a great way to help desensitize your dog to getting their paws touched. We keep a tin of this on hand for any time we notice Peanut’s paws are getting rough and scratchy, but it’s also great for the winter, when sidewalks are covered in salt, which can burn dog’s feet. After a long walk we wipe peanut’s feet with a warm, wet cloth, then rub a dab of ointment into her paws to keep them hydrated and clean. Kevin calls it her little spa treatment. You can also just rub in a dab anytime you think of it, to keep those paws moisturized!
