September Favorites

Hello, hello!

I know I always say it, but how is this month possibly over already? Thanksgiving is less than two months away and 2019 is literally around the corner. Somebody hold me, I’m feeling all the feels right now.

September has been a month of apple picking, fall festivals, weekend trips, nonstop Thanksgiving recipe testing (because, despite the fact that most of the month was still technically summer, I’m in full-force end-of-year blog content planning over here).

We also took one last beach trip (hallelujah!), spent a weekend away with friends, and are slowly, stubbornly, adjusting to the diminishing daylight and the fact that summer is really over.

So, before September passes us by, let’s chat about the things that have gotten me excited this month.

September Things

Tahini.

Last month I discovered this new (to me) tahini from Pepperwood Organic that’s made from whole, unhulled organic sesame seeds that are stone-ground to create this beautifully tan, creamy, boldly sesame flavored tahini. Much like the difference between white vs whole grain flour, using the whole sesame seed leaves the complete nutrition profile of the sesame seed in-tact. So, it tastes amazing and has more vitamins and minerals than typical tahini. It’s a total win-win. I bought this 2-pack on amazon, and my only complaint is that it’s bottled in plastic, not glass.

Golden Turmeric Lattes.

There’s something so beautiful about listening to our bodies’ cravings: I haven’t been remotely interested in sipping on golden milk/turmeric lattes all summer, and then, like clockwork, the season changed and I woke up one morning this month craving one. I don’t know if it’s the bright golden color on days that are starting to have less sunlight, the immune-boosting properties of ginger and turmeric, or just the fact that it’s warm, sweet, and soothing to sip on, but I can’t get enough of it lately. This is the recipe I always use, sometimes adding in more or less of whatever I have or am craving, or swapping out different milks, etc.

Cozy Pullovers.

These days I’m living in my LLBean Quilted Pullover, this super soft lightweight men’s pullover that I bought for Kevin but kept for myself, and my favorite Patagonia Pullover (clearly I have a thing for quilted tops). They’re warm, cozy, and surprisingly cute, too.

September Things

Granola.

I’ve been loving granola as a snack this month, just by the handful, or with milk/yogurt, etc. There’s always a batch of my classic maple & olive oil granola in the house, and I recently discovered this raw, fermented, suuuuper chunky + delicious granola from Living Raw that’s currently my everything. If you’re into raw/sprouted/fermented foods, I hiiiiighly recommend this granola. I linked to it on amazon, where you can only buy an 8-pack, but they sell them in 3-packs on their website for a pretty reasonable price, too!  Kevin’s been having a moment with Clif Bar’s Blueberry Energy Granola, which is another store-bought granola line we’ve been buying a lot lately!

Pottery Barn’s Harry Potter Collection.

It’s no secret that I’m a die-hard Harry Potter fan, and Pottery Barn’s new collection is giving me allll the Harry Potter feels this month (we’re also re-reading the series right now, and I’m totally not ready for it to end). We already ordered the golden snitch snack bowl (which I think is gone/sold out already?) and this Map of Howgarts is already on my Christmas List. If it weren’t a little excessive, I’d probably put the entire PB Teen Harry Potter Collection on my list, too. Towels and clocks and mirrors and throw blankets? Yes, yes, yes, and yes.

Early Morning Walks.

This month I’ve been loving heading out for a walk in the early, misty mornings, and the opportunity to get a little extra sunshine and movement in my days first thing. I love the stillness and calm of the early mornings, but don’t always make an effort to go out and enjoy it. This month, though, I’ve found my schedule to be extra packed, and little free time to myself, so taking a walk first thing in the morning has been essential for my mental health.

That’s all for today! This month has been busy, busy, busy so granola, tahini,  cozy pullovers + lattes, and Harry Potter are pretty much everything I needed to get me through. I hope you’re all enjoying this last weekend of September; see you next month for my October Things!

Oh, and Canadian Friends- check out last year’s Thanksgiving Recipe Roundup if you’re planning your thanksgiving feast for next week and need some inspiration!
