What to Make this September: 30 Recipes Using September Produce

Today I’m sharing 30 recipes- one for each day of the month- to make the most of September produce. Below you’ll find recipes celebrating late summer/early fall produce like apples, butternut squash, kale, eggplant, carrots, beets, broccoli, green beans, tomatoes, watermelon, garlic, peppers, and herbs, to help you take advantage of the beautiful collision of summer and fall produce this month.

Happy September and Labor Day Weekend! I’m solidly on team summer-doesn’t-end-til-the-calender-says-so, so today we’re celebrating the last three weeks of summer with a guide to cooking seasonally in September. September is such an interesting month; there are still mountains of tomatoes, watermelon, cantaloupe, eggplant, peppers, green beans, kale, and herbs at the farmer’s market, but the very first fall produce like cauliflower, butternut squash, garlic, and potatoes start getting harvested, too. It’s not quite pumpkin season (at least, not here in Massachusetts, though I’m sure they’re growing somewhere and I will be forced to heavily roll my eyes when I see them in the grocery store) but the air starts to slowly get cooler an more crisp, and so the food I cook I’m my kitchen begins to shift.

There are still hot, sticky summer days that call for salads and cold, refreshing fruit, but there are also cooler mornings and evenings that have me craving soups, casseroles, and warm desserts, too.

So, to help you navigate this confusing month, I’m sharing 30 recipes below, one for each day of September. They’re divided into breakfast, lunch/dinner, dessert, and snacks/other, to help you navigate them more easily. Each of them features produce that is in season right now (at least, it’s in season for me, here in New England) and can be sourced at local farmer’s markets, which, by the way, are absolutely exploding with produce this time of year.
